Solar PV (photovoltaic) systams convert sunlight into electricity.
Photovoltaic
(PV) panels convert light into electricity. Most PV cells are made from silicon,
similar to that used in the semiconductor industry. When a solar cell is exposed
to light, the so-called photovoltaic effect causes electrons within the
material to be set free. If an electric circuit is closed, electricity can flow.
PV
systems can be divided into grid-connected systems and stand-alone systems.
Grid-connected systems supply electricity to the public electricity grid or
to the dwelling and are the most common form of installation. Any surplus electricity
can sometimes be sold to the grid. Stand-alone systems require battery storage
to cope with any mismatch between demand and supply.
Solutions Renewable
Energy are currently working towards becoming accredited installers of PV systems.
We can install small stand-alone systems at the moment and offer advice on grid-connected
systems. We hope to offer a complete service in 2008.
Energy-saving installations attract a reduced
rate of VAT at 5%.
